In a recent conversation with the Traffic police of Vizag, the news came into the limelight that around 10,795 drunk and driving cases are already registered in 2023 to date and it is very high when compared to the last year because in the last year, the total of 10,824 cases was registered but in this year still five months left and already the count is nearly equivalent to the total case of the previous year.
According to G Srinivasa Rao, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) of the traffic department stated that these cases are leading to heightened vigilance.
Till now the police collected a total of 1.4 crores in fines from drunk and driving cases whereas in 2022 the total amount was collected to 1.81 crore.
The Harbour police station mentioned that a total of 1935 cases are already encountered in 2023 and followed by Kancharapalem and Gajuwaka who mentioned 1567 cases each till now.
ADCP Srinivasa Rao mentioned that normally all nine traffic divisions in the city have two dedicated teams, that do random checks for drunk and driving cases in but it is seen more on the weekends and also during holidays and special events. He also stated that police wear small cameras on their uniform to record everything along with two breath checking machines (which can detect alcohol) in each of the nine traffic divisions.
