In a significant development, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials apprehended B Suresh Kumar, an assistant engineer working in the Dondaparthy section of the Eastern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APEPDCL) in Vizag city. The arrest was made on Tuesday following allegations of Kumar demanding and accepting a bribe amounting to ₹60,000 from a complainant.
The accused engineer, B Suresh Kumar, allegedly solicited the bribe to expedite a favor requested by N Surya Prakash, a resident of Akkayyapalem in Vizag city. Prakash had approached Kumar seeking assistance in the installation of electricity meters for four flats within a group house.
Reportedly, Kumar insisted on a bribe of ₹80,000 to facilitate the installation of the meters. Unwilling to succumb to corruption, N Surya Prakash promptly reported the matter to the ACB, prompting them to launch an investigation.
The ACB officials, acting swiftly on the complaint, set up a trap to catch the accused red-handed. During the operation, B Suresh Kumar was apprehended while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹60,000 from Surya Prakash.
The arrest sends a strong message against corruption and underscores the commitment of the ACB to root out malpractices within government institutions. B Suresh Kumar is now in custody, and legal proceedings will follow in accordance with the law.
