In Erraguntla, Anantapur district, a tragic incident occurred as elderly residents were brutally attacked for gold. The village, part of Garladinne Mandal in Anantapur district, witnessed this horrifying event. An 84-year-old woman named Obulamma fell victim to a heinous murder for the sake of gold. Reports suggest that the elderly lived together in a single household, with Obulamma’s daughter residing in Hyderabad. Recently, Krishna Murthy, a relative who visited the village, was given seven bangles made of gold by Obulamma for an auspicious occasion. However, after 15 days when he didn’t return them, the locals provided shelter to the family, fearing the worst. In a desperate attempt to retrieve the gold, Krishna Murthy’s family members confronted Obulamma, resulting in a violent altercation where she was fatally injured. Her body was found with severe injuries in Penakacharla Dam. The relatives of the elderly lodged a complaint, leading to the registration of a case by the police. Authorities, including Anantapur Rural DSP Venkat Shiva Reddy, CI Shridhar, and SI officers, investigated the scene. The body was then retrieved from Penakacharla Dam.
