Ex-Servicemen Employment Job Fair in Visakhapatnam Draws

In a bid to facilitate the re-employment of ex-servicemen (ESM) and bridge the gap between veterans seeking new opportunities and potential employers, the Directorate General of Resettlement, the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, and the Ministry of Defence jointly organized an Employment Job Fair at HADR Grounds, INS Satavahana, Visakhapatnam, on December 17.

The event, which witnessed an overwhelming response from ex-servicemen hailing from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, served as a common platform for 30 participating companies and 1340 registered ex-servicemen from the Army, Air Force, and Navy.

Commodore Vivek Hotti, Director Regional Centre ECHS, inaugurated the job fair, with the presence of Srinivasa Raju, Convener CII AP Chapter and Chairman AP Chapter SIDM, and Guest of Honour Brig Rohit Mehta, ADG, DRZ (South). The successful event has set the stage for five more job fairs scheduled across India in the coming months.

The participating companies provided opportunities for a wide range of positions, from senior supervisors and mid- to senior-level managers to strategic planners and project directors. The goal is to harness the technical and administrative expertise acquired by the veterans during their years in service.

Entrepreneurship models were also a focal point during the job fair, with various companies presenting opportunities for veterans to explore entrepreneurial paths. This unique approach not only benefits the corporations by tapping into a pool of experienced and disciplined ex-servicemen but also allows veterans to showcase their skills and capabilities to potential employers.

The collaborative effort between the government and corporate sectors not only addresses the employment needs of ex-servicemen but also acknowledges the valuable contribution they can make to various industries. The job fair stands as a testament to the commitment of creating avenues for the seamless transition of veterans into civilian employment, recognizing the wealth of skills they bring to the table.

The positive response received in Visakhapatnam highlights the success of such initiatives in fostering a mutually beneficial relationship between corporations and veterans, ultimately contributing to the broader goal of national development.
