In a concerted effort to elevate the tourism potential of the picturesque Kailasagiri hilltop, the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has unveiled an array of ambitious development projects. These visionary plans encompass a multifaceted makeover for the hill, featuring the addition of charming nature cottages, a captivating sea-view cafe, a luxurious infinity pool, and a host of other attractions aimed at both locals and tourists.
The grand beautification endeavor, set to be executed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework, is estimated to carry a financial commitment of approximately Rs 18 crores, according to VMRDA officials. Notably, the local authorities have previously contemplated rejuvenating the hill with a slew of attractions, but these initiatives were regrettably halted midway back in 2019, owing to a variety of factors. These unrealized projects encompassed the creation of an adventure park, a striking sky tower, and enhancements to the overall tourist infrastructure, among other captivating additions.
In a more recent development, VMRDA has resolutely reinvigorated the pathway connecting Kailasagiri to the Telugu museum, outfitting it with a sleek bituminous concrete coating. Furthermore, they have undertaken significant enhancements to the iconic Shiva-Parvati statue on the hill, creatively transformed the tree arch into a work of art, breathed new life into the musical fountain, and elevated the vantage points to offer breathtaking vistas. Visakhapatnam District Collector A Mallikarjuna IAS enthusiastically announced that the beloved Vysakhi Jala Udyanavanam, situated adjacent to Kailasagiri, is slated for a comprehensive transformation with an impressive budget of 22 crores.
The VMRDA’s ambitious vision for the Jala Udyanavanam involves its metamorphosis into a vibrant urban entertainment hub, a move expected to further bolster the city’s tourist appeal. What’s already generating considerable buzz is the tantalizing tidbit that a unique and one-of-a-kind science museum is in the pipeline, soon to grace the enchanting Kailasagiri landscape, promising a holistic experience for both science enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. These promising developments are poised to transform Kailasagiri into an even more alluring destination for travelers and adventure-seekers, offering an enticing blend of natural beauty and man-made marvels.
