A recent door-to-door survey in Visakhapatnam, India, found that approximately one lakh (100,000) voters have moved away from the city in recent years. Additionally, the survey discovered that around 27,000 voters have passed away. The Visakha West constituency had the highest number of voters who had moved, with more than 56,000 of them still residing in the area. After conducting the survey, authorities removed 42,000 voters from the list of those who had moved. Notices are being sent to these voters at their postal addresses, and if they don’t respond within 15 days, they will be taken off the voter list.

In another development, seven districts in the Indore-Ujjain division, including Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Ratlam, Dindori, Mandla, and Balaghat, now have more female voters than male voters. These districts have a predominantly tribal population, with five of them having all their assembly seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes. Although in the 2018 assembly election, these districts had fewer female voters, the gender balance has improved in the last five years. The local administration is working to promote women’s empowerment and address issues related to discrimination and crimes against women.

Moving to Chhattisgarh, it’s worth noting that women voters now outnumber men by 119,370. Additionally, 7,23,771 first-time voters between the ages of 18 and 19 have registered for the upcoming assembly polls in November. The state’s total number of voters has increased by 7.19 lakh compared to the previous revision, reaching a total of 20,360,240 voters. The Election Commission of India has introduced initiatives to make elections more inclusive, allowing people over 80 years old and those with disabilities to vote from home. They have also committed to setting up polling booths managed by women and reaching out to remote tribal communities.
