State Congress leader Y.S. Sharmila led a protest in Visakhapatnam on Monday at the GVMC Gandhi statue, expressing strong condemnation for the assault on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra in Assam. Sharmila emphasized that the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra represents a quest to defend citizens’ rights. She accused the BJP of attempting to harm Rahul Gandhi in Assam, making peaceful travel challenging in BJP-ruled states.
Sharmila raised concerns about the suppression of opposition voices by the ruling party, questioning the state of democracy in the country. She specifically mentioned the reported denial of entry for Rahul Gandhi to a temple during his visit to Assam. Highlighting the upcoming elections, Sharmila warned that if Prime Minister Modi and his party continued with anti-democratic actions, the people would teach them a lesson. The protest also saw the participation of key party members including Manikkam Tagore, K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, Gidugu Rudra Raju, and Raghuveera Reddy.
