The judge in the special court for POCSO cases on Thursday found a teacher guilty and sentenced him to 25 years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor girl student. The judge, Anandi, also ordered the convict to pay a fine of 50,000. She further directed the authorities to provide compensation of 4.5 lakh to the victim. This case was filed in 2020.
The 16-year-old girl had enrolled in a tuition center at Akkayyapalem in 2020. The tuition teacher, Janakeswara Rao, began harassing the student and assaulted her multiple times by taking photos and threatening to share them online. The victim informed her brother about the teacher’s actions, leading her mother to file a complaint at the IV Town police station on February 27, 2020. The police arrested the teacher and filed charges under sections 376 (2), (f), (n), and 506 of the IPC, along with section 6 of the POCSO Act.
The public prosecutor of the special court, Karanam Krishna, and the investigation team dedicated substantial effort to ensure the accused received the maximum punishment.
