Union Fisheries Minister Launches Sagar Parikrama Program in Vizag, Extends Support to Fishermen

Visakhapatnam: Union Fisheries Minister Parshottam Rupala announced the initiation of the Sagar Parikrama program during his visit on Thursday, aimed at bolstering the morale of fishermen across the country. He graced the inauguration of the 10th Sagar Parikrama event at the Visakhapatnam Fishing Harbour as the chief guest.

During the event, Parshottam Rupala, along with members of the legislative council, conducted an inspection of various jetties, commencing from the 11th jetty. Subsequently, in a proactive step to support the fishing community, the minister facilitated the distribution of financial aid, providing a loan amounting to 23.50 lakh to 39 fishermen.

In a gesture to enhance the capabilities of fishermen and augment their trade, Rupala handed over essential resources, including a fish transport vehicle, 23 two-wheelers equipped with ice boxes, 27 Fish Andhra units, four live fish vending center units, and 10 open sea cage units to benefit 70 fishermen.

Addressing the gathering, Andhra Pradesh Fisheries Minister Dr. Sidiri Appalaraju emphasized the significance of the coastal regions in Andhra Pradesh, underscoring its status as the second-largest coastal region in the country after Gujarat. He expressed the state’s anticipation for increased cooperation from the central government to further boost the fishing industry in Andhra Pradesh.

In response, Union Minister Rupala reiterated the central government’s commitment to the comprehensive development of fishermen. He highlighted the establishment of a dedicated central ministry for fishermen in 2019, emphasizing its role in addressing the specific needs and fostering holistic progress within the fishing community.

The launch of the Sagar Parikrama program coupled with the proactive measures to equip fishermen with essential resources exemplifies the government’s concerted efforts towards uplifting the fishing sector. The initiatives taken aim to empower fishermen, enhance their livelihoods, and pave the way for a more sustainable and thriving fishing industry across the nation.
