The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has clinched the prestigious Swachchta Pakhwada Awards, reaffirming its commitment to cleanliness and hygiene. This recognition was announced at a ceremony held in New Delhi, where the VPA stood first among all major ports nationwide.
At the ceremony, Union Minister Sarbanada Sonowal presented the Swachchta Pakhwada Award to VPA chairman M. Angamuthu, accompanied by Secretary T. Venu Gopal and Chief Engineer M. Hariya. The VPA team was lauded for their exceptional efforts, which propelled Visakhapatnam Port to the top spot among major ports and secured the third rank among all organizations under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways.
Chairman M. Angamuthu attributed this success to the rigorous implementation of the port’s Swachchta Action Plan. This comprehensive plan encompasses various activities such as wharf cleaning, shed repairs, auctioning and disposing of unserviceable items, uniform color coding for signage and boards, road cleaning and repair, and modernized toilet complexes with the provision of dustbins.
Emphasizing VPA’s commitment to environmental sustainability, Angamuthu highlighted initiatives like solid waste collection, segregation, sorting, and storage on ships, along with the treatment of liquid and faecal waste before discharge. These measures underscore the port’s dedication to maintaining cleanliness while minimizing its environmental footprint.
The VPA’s achievement reflects a concerted team effort and a steadfast commitment to ensuring a clean and hygienic environment within the port premises. With this accolade, the Visakhapatnam Port Authority sets a benchmark for cleanliness and hygiene standards, setting an example for other ports and organizations nationwide.
